Oak Beam Mantel
Please choose a finish
Description
Our Oak Beam Mantel is a rustic solid oak fireplace beam, made to order from finest-grade, well-seasoned European oak. Every beam carries its own knots, grain and natural character, making it a warm, timeless focal point above a log burner, fireplace, electric fire or range cooker. Available in five lengths from 76cm to 137cm, three thicknesses, four styles and seven hand-applied finishes.
- Solid European Oak — Each oak beam is cut from top-grade, well-seasoned European oak, chosen for its strength, rich grain and long-lasting quality.
- Made to Order — Every oak beam mantel is crafted to your chosen length, thickness, style and finish, so it arrives ready to become the centrepiece of your room.
- Four Beam Styles — Choose Traditional, Squared, Shaped or Aged to suit everything from a period cottage inglenook to a clean, contemporary chimney breast or media wall.
- Seven Hand-Applied Finishes — Natural, Danish Oil, Medium Oak, Dark Oak, Dark Tudor Oak, Jacobean or Tinted Grey, so you can match your oak mantel to floors, doors and furniture.
The Oak Beam Mantel brings the character of traditional British joinery into the heart of the home. Fitted as a floating mantel shelf above a wood burner, it frames the fire and gives you the perfect place for candles, photos, plants and seasonal decorations.
It is just as striking as a feature lintel over an inglenook or brick fireplace, a shelf above an inset electric fire or media wall, a beam above a range cooker or an open shelf in a kitchen or living room. As a natural, seasoned timber, every oak beam may show cracks, knots and splits, which add to its rustic charm and mean no two beams are ever the same.
Which Size Do I Need?
- 76cm to 92cm — compact chimney breasts, small stoves and narrow alcoves.
- 106cm to 120cm — standard fireplace openings, most wood burner recesses and electric fires.
- 137cm — wide chimney breasts, inglenooks, media walls and statement range cooker surrounds.
As a guide, choose a beam that is longer than your fireplace opening so it overhangs evenly on both sides. For thickness, 12 x 10cm suits a slimmer shelf, 12 x 12cm gives a classic chunky beam and 15 x 10cm gives the deepest profile. Need a different size? Contact us; we can make oak beams up to 140cm long.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Oak Beam Mantel solid oak?
Yes. Every Oak Beam Mantel is solid, well-seasoned European oak, not veneer or engineered wood.
Will my oak beam look exactly like the photos?
No two beams are the same. As natural, seasoned timber, each oak beam has its own grain, knots, cracks and splits, so the photos show an example of how your beam may look.
What is the difference between the oak beam styles?
Traditional has a classic rustic look, Squared has crisp, clean edges, Shaped has softly contoured edges and Aged has a weathered, distressed character. The price is the same whichever style you choose.
Does the finish change the price?
No. All seven finishes are the same price; the price is set only by the length and thickness of your oak beam mantel.
Can I fit an oak beam mantel above a wood burner?
Yes, oak beam mantels are a popular choice above wood burners and open fires. Always follow your stove manufacturer's recommended clearance to combustible materials and current Building Regulations, and if in doubt ask a HETAS-registered installer.
Can I use an oak beam mantel above an electric fire or media wall?
Yes. An oak beam mantel makes a warm, natural feature shelf above an inset electric fire or across a modern media wall, adding rustic character to a contemporary living room.
What size oak beam mantel do I need?
Choose a beam longer than your fireplace opening so it overhangs evenly on both sides. 76cm to 92cm suits compact chimney breasts and small stoves, 106cm to 120cm suits most fireplace openings, and 137cm suits wide chimney breasts and inglenooks.
Can I order a custom size oak beam?
Yes. If you need a length or thickness not listed, contact us. Beams can be made up to 140cm long.
Are cracks and knots normal in an oak beam?
Yes. Seasoned oak naturally moves and may show cracks, knots and splits. These are part of the timber's rustic character and do not affect its strength as a mantel beam.
